A Sweet Afternoon

I have an affinity for chocolate, specifically Purdy’s chocolate. But unfortunately there are currently no locations of my favourite chocolatier on the East Coast. Luckily though, I have an awesome mom who sends me care packages every so often for my girlfriend (if she’s quick enough) and I to enjoy.

This time however, I decided to make images of the chocolates before attempting to consume them all.

If you have the ability to shoot at F1.2, why not do it? The first photograph was taken at F2.8, the second at F1.2.

These last two images are ‘behind the scenes’ documentation of my lighting set up taken with my iPhone (and obviously not colour corrected / edited). I used a singular light source to illuminate my subject - the Aputure 300D Mark II with a Lightdome II + grid.

Closed, Until Further Notice

This morning I went on a walk by the ocean for the first time, in a long time (early in the morning and fully respecting socially distancing guidelines) and the emptiness of the Halifax boardwalk felt surreal. Typically around this time of year the waterfront is busy with locals and tourists alike, however due to the pandemic the boardwalk (and the harbour itself) were eerily quiet.

Since March 12th, I have not been leaving my apartment for any reason other than to get groceries and other essential items so this brief early morning adventure was long overdue.

For the last three summers I have worked in tourism along the waterfront, so to see the boardwalk this empty on a beautiful morning is unlike anything I’ve ever seen before.

Of course the tape, fences and warning signs are also unlike anything I’ve (or the world) has ever seen before.

Despite the eery stillness, the waterfront during quarantine is peaceful and early morning walks are something I plan on making a habit of (safely of course). The best part, aside from the quiet privacy is that there are absolutely zero cruise-ship passengers meandering in the way of my shots.
