Graham Lloyd Ross is a Canadian photographer and artist living in Halifax, Nova Scotia. In 2020 he graduated* with a scholarship from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (NSCAD University) with a Major in Filmmaking and a Minor in Art History.
From an early age, Graham has been passionate about making art and has been using both analog and digital cameras since childhood. He began to pursue photography seriously in high school where he documented social events, sports and portraits for the yearbook.
This passion continued to manifest as he built his portfolio with event, concert and fine art photography; eventually resulting in Graham moving away from home to attend a fine-art college. During this education Graham learned and built upon valuable skills that furthered his film and photographic knowledge, built lasting relationships with like-minded, creative individuals and most importantly gained incredible opportunities to grow as an artist and person.
With over a decade of experience with cameras and lighting in combination with his years of education, Graham has a firm understanding of filmmaking and photography and these media can be used to artistically tell a story, capture a moment or build a brand.
His artistic photographic practice is focused in documentation for the sake of preservation of moment within time and place and subjects often include city scapes, architecture, building projects under construction, landscapes and street photography. With intentionally careful (at times obsessive) attention to lighting, Graham is drawn to capture scenes and subjects as they are, and potentially how they never will be exactly, again. This earnest approach to routinely photograph the world around him is sparked by a compulsive desire to remember as much of life as possible. Experiences are fleeting but photographs allow for these ephemeral moments to exist beyond time and place. His personal photographic work can be found by clicking the ‘Recent Projects’ link.
Graham’s professional photographic work parallels his artistic work in that it is focused in documenting and preserving the moment meanwhile taking on a more commercial approach by collaborating with the client to ensure all their wants and needs are creatively fulfilled.
*Due to the COVID19 pandemic no official graduation ceremony took place but I did technically finish and receive my degree.
